Notes and Disclaimer for Forward Market Pricing (FMP), 7-Day Price Change, Historical Market Pricing (HMP) Charts
Introduction
The charts are published by the MarginFuel data science team who have extracted and analysed a selected set of data from the MarginFuel data repository which contains billions of data points.
The extract used for this analysis contains millions of data points from a selection of gross agent online travel aggregators (OTAs).
General Notes
Daily prices
- All prices are collected as absolute daily rates
- Refer to data aggregation section below as to how the prices are displayed
- All prices displayed as ‘gross price’ (commonly referred to as ‘sell price’) and include compulsory fees and charges (where applicable), including (but not limited to):
- Local taxes
- Premium location fee
- Vehicle registration fee
- Collision Damage Waiver (CDW)
Currency
- Displayed in local currency as noted (default setting, cannot be updated by the user)
Operators
- Pre-selected operators are shown (can be multi-selected by the user)
Location
- Pre-selected locations are shown (can be multi-selected by the user)
Vehicle category
- Pre-selected vehicle categories are shown (can be multi-selected by the user)
- Data summarised into four (4) common vehicle categories, being:
- Compact
- Economy
- Intermediate
- Underlying car type (make and model) data is mapped to commonly used vehicle categories (per above) using the internationally recognised ACRISS code mapping table
Length of rental
- Pre-selected length of rentals is shown (noting daily price for each length of rental, not total rental revenue, and can be multi-selected by the user), being:
Channel
- Only data collected from a selection of gross agent OTAs is shown (default setting, cannot be updated by the user)
Point of sale
- Only data collected from the domestic point of sale market is shown (default setting, cannot be updated by the user)
Data collection
- Data is collected at the same time each day during a specific four (4) hour time block
- Data is collected in accordance with MarginFuel’s ethical data collection policies
- Data is refreshed daily at noon New Zealand Standard Time
Data aggregation
General (applies to brand, location, vehicle category, length of rental)
- Where menus have multiple options selected, the daily prices displayed are averaged across these selections, for example:
- Brand All / Location All / Vehicle All / Length of Rental All
- The daily price for each brand is the average of all these menu selections
- Where menus are for a single select option, the daily prices displayed are absolute
- e.g. Brand All/Location Algarve City/Vehicle Compact/Length of Rental 1
- The daily price for each brand will be the absolute daily price for this set of menu selections
Vehicle category
- As noted in the vehicle category above, underlying car type (make and model) data using the internationally recognised ACRISS codes is mapped to four (4) commonly used vehicle categories, being:
- Compact
- Economy
- Intermediate
- SUV
- In doing so, the daily price displayed for each of the four (4) vehicle categories is the average price of all the underlying prices from each of the individual vehicles
Other
- Inconsistent outlying data points were removed
- The dataset was deemed large enough to draw reasonable conclusions
- No delineation has been made between Domestic and International rental car customers

Notes and Disclaimer for Flight Demand Chart
Introduction
MarginFuel's partnership with Skyscanner provides MarginFuel with access to flight search and check out (when a user searches for flight pricing for dates and locations and exits to the booking site) data for over 500 city destinations globally.
MarginFuel has analysed this data to show the cumulative number of check outs for selected locations for each future month and origin and compared against last year at the same time (e.g., cumulative check outs on 1st November 2020 for the following 12 months travel period compared to the same as of 1 November 2019).
In addition, we show the check outs made over the past seven (7) days for this year and last year to show the recent trends.
General Notes
- Data used in these charts is Skyscanner check out data which has traditionally had a high conversion rate against final bookings
- Data is updated daily
- Locations used are mapped to the locations used in the pricing insights section, however where there is more than one airport in a location, Skyscanner checkout data for all airports in that location is used
